MOKA POT BREW GUIDE

The trusty Moka Pot makes a strong brew, perfect for adding milk to. Follow the below guide to stop the bitter brews this method can be capable of if used incorrectly.

We like the old school feel to this brewer and the ability to make many coffees at once.

BREW RECIPE

This will depend on the size of your Moka pot. However, you just need enough coffee to fill the basket and enough water to reach the overpressure valve. Simple.

ITEMS NEEDED

Moka Pot, Coffee, Water, Grinder,  Kettle, Scales (once you know how much coffee you need), Heat source

PREP

1. Grind your coffee medium fine (similar to table salt) and fill the basket so its even and level, no need to compress the coffee.

2. Boil a kettle of filtered water. Then fill the bottom section of the brewer up to just below the pressure valve.

3. Put the basket in place and screw the Moka Pot tight together. Be careful as the bottom of the Moka Pot will be hot once the water has been added, use an oven glove.

BREW

1. Put the Moka Pot onto a low to medium heat, leave the lid up so you can see when the coffee starts to pour.

2. After a  few minutes coffee should slowly start to pour from the top of the pot. Once the coffee has started to flow, turn down the heat, the coffee should be slowly pouring out now.

3. Once the coffee starts to gurgle and spit, remove the Moka Pot from the heat. To stop the brew, which is important as if it continues brewing this will turn the coffee bitter, run the bottom section of the Moka Pot under cold water.

Serve

1. If you prefer a song brew then enjoy the coffee as is. Add milk or hot water if you prefer a longer brew.
